The Housing Application Process

Housing Application Process: Storrs Fall 2021

Please review the steps below for specific information related to applying for housing in the Fall 2021 semester.

Step 1: Pay the $400 Enrollment Deposit

  • After the $400 enrollment deposit is paid, you will have access to the housing application by using your netID and password. Please note that it takes 3-5 business days for the information to fully integrate into the system and you will receive an email when you can apply.
  • Information Technology Services (ITS) issues netIDs and emails activation instructions to the personal email account on file with the University. Visit https://netid.uconn.edu for additional information about this process.

Step 2: Complete Part 1 of the Housing Application inside of MyHousing

  • A confirmation email is automatically sent once an application is submitted. Please contact Residential Life if you do not receive this communication or have questions about the application.
  • Please refer to the Residency Requirement Information page for more information.

Step 3: Complete Part 2 of the Housing Application

  • Students are encouraged to fill out Part 2 of the housing application, which includes more lifestyle questions to help our Housing Services staff with placement.
  • Please use your previous experiences sharing a living space with another person when considering your answers to these questions.
  • An email notification will be sent out in Summer 2021 to notify students when this part of the application is available so that they can go into MyHousing and complete it.
    • Important note: Access will be provided on an on-going basis through the month of June and students will receive an email to their UConn email account once their account has access to Part 2 of the housing application.

Step 4: Request a Roommate in MyHousing June 1 – July 16

  • We make every effort to match mutual roommate requests but we cannot issue a guarantee that every student who requests a roommate will be assigned together.
  • Roommate requests are not mandatory and the majority of students are placed with someone they did not know before coming to the University.
  • Students can use the Advanced Roommate Pairing feature in MyHousing to find a roommate, otherwise students can also use www.facebook.com/UConnRoommates as another option to look for compatible roommates.
  • Roommate Requests are accepted from June 1 - July 16 inside of MyHousing. New students who are requesting to live a new student can follow the tutorial below to pair with each other once the process is active.

Tutorial: Forming a Roommate Group in MyHousing

  • New students who are requesting to live with a current UConn student must provide the information below to livingoncampus@uconn.edu during the time that roommate requests are accepted:
    • Information Needed from New Student:
      • Email Subject: New Student Requesting Current Student as Fall 2021 Roommate
      • Include your full name, 7-digit Student ID number, and the full name, 7-digit Student ID number, and current Fall 2021 assignment for the current student.
    • Information Needed from Current UConn Student:
      • Email Subject: Current Student Requesting New Student as Fall 2021 Roommate
      • Include your full name, 7-digit Student ID number, current Fall 2021 assignment and the full name/7-digit Student ID number for the new student.
      • Current students must include the following statement: "I agree to be reassigned/relocated in order to live with my preferred roommate".

 

Step 5: Submit the Health History Form to Student Health and Wellness by July 1, 2021

  • The Health History Form must include mandatory meningitis vaccination information, per Connecticut state law, and meningitis vaccination verification or immunization exemption information must be on file with the University by July 1, 2021 for 2021-2022.

Step 6: Complete Sharing Spaces Module in HuksyCT by August 1, 2021

  • This module in HuskyCT will help residents learn strategies to develop positive roommate relationships
  • An email announcement will be sent to students once the module is available

Step 7: Check your UConn email account!

  • Residential Life will email assignment and check-in information to UConn email accounts in early August.
  • Assignments are made using the personal preference information submitted on the 2021-2022 On-Campus Housing Application.

  • Information Technology Services (ITS) issues netIDs and emails activation instructions to the personal email account on file with the University. Visit https://netid.uconn.edu for additional information about this process.

Step 2: Complete the Housing Application inside of MyHousing

  • A confirmation email is automatically sent once an application is submitted. Please contact Residential Life if you do not receive this communication or have questions about the application.
  • Some students may be part of the Residency Requirement and be required to live on campus. Please refer to the Residency Requirement Information page for more information.

Roommate Information

Due to limited number of fully open spaces that can accommodate two people, we are not able to accept roommate requests for the spring 2022 semester.

Housing Accommodations

  • Students with a documented health/medical condition or disability which may impact their living environment must contact the Center for Students with Disabilities (CSD) to register and request a housing accommodation.
  • Students are encouraged to register by July 1 for Fall semester and by December 1 for Spring semester. Requests received after July 1/December 1 may not be honored due to availability.

Convictions, Pending Charges, or Removal from Housing

  • On-campus housing may be denied to students with felony or misdemeanor convictions (other than minor traffic violations), pending charges, or who have received disciplinary sanctions at another institution which resulted in removal from on-campus housing. Students must share this information on the housing application (or via email if after submitting the application), and must submit the following information in writing to livingoncampus@uconn.edu

Information Required & Notification of Housing Eligibility

  • Detailed explanation of the conviction, charges, or sanctions. The correspondence should include first/last name, netID, and contact information.
  • Once the statement of explanation is reviewed by the Associate Director of Housing Services, applicants will be contacted regarding eligibility.
