Spring 2021 Room Change Process

Spring 2021 Room Change Process

The Spring Room Change Process will be offered in an online format from January 11 - January 13, 2021. Open spaces on campus are limited and we are not able to guarantee that every room type/campus area will be available for students to select into.

Students who are newly assigned into housing for the spring semester and students who participated in the November housing selection process will be automatically assigned a pick time for this process. If you do not want to change rooms for spring 2021 and are fully satisfied with your current spring 2021 assignment, all you need to do is not select a new room and you will remain in your current space.

The available room list for this process is based only on our current vacancies. After a student picks a new room, their old room will appear on the available rooms list for other students to consider and potentially select into. If a student changes their mind after picking a new space, we cannot guarantee that their old room will still be available for them to return to.

Spring Room Change Basic Overview

Spring Room Change Basic Overview

  • Selection times for all available students will be available on January 6 in MyHousing
    • As a reminder, students are not required to participate in this process and if you are not interested in a room change, all you need to do is not select a new space during this process and you will remain in your currently assigned spring 2021 space.
  • The room change process will take place starting at 9:00AM on January 11 through 11:59pm (midnight) on January 13

Roommate Requests

This process does not allow for roommate pairs to "pull in" a second person into a room. This means that each person would need to select during their individual pick time. If two students are hoping to pick into a space together, we recommend that they are in good communication with each other during this process and either wait until the second person is eligible to pick so that you can both pick housing at the same time, or the person with the earlier time can select a space and hope that the remaining space is available for the second person's pick time.

As a reminder, students are not able to reserve, hold, or dissuade other students from picking into a space and should not be unwelcoming to any roommates.

Room Rate/Meal Plan Changes

Room Rate/Meal Plan Changes

Room rate or meal plan changes can occur. Be aware that adjustments may be made to your fee bill depending on the room type you are moving into or out of. Changes often occur within 1 week of being assigned to a new space. Students in traditional-style halls and suites are required to purchase a meal plan.

Every space will have the associated room rate listed next to it. As a reminder, students who select into a Traditional Single room will be responsible for paying Rate 4 if they select into that space.

Specific Room Requests

We cannot guarantee that every specific room request will be able to be honored, as many spaces are currently occupied for the spring semester. Requests for a specific room can be submitted to livingoncampus@uconn.edu until noon on January 8, 2021, and staff will do their best to accommodate.

Please note that due to the short turnaround time for this process, we cannot accept any specific room requests after that time, and students would need to use their pick time to try to select their preferred space if they are not able to submit a request before the deadline.

Reduced Density Spaces

Similar to fall 2020, students in traditional doubles will not have roommates for the spring semester and students in Busby and Garrigus Suites will have two students assigned per room. As a reminder, South Suites will remain at its typical occupancy levels of 2 students per room.

Students who select into a traditional single room will be responsible for Rate 4 housing, while students in traditional doubles will be responsible for Rate 1 housing.

The following areas will not be available for this process:

  • Charter Oak Apartments
  • Mansfield Apartments
  • Husky Village
  • Woodhouse Hall
  • Grange Hall

Students who will not be participating in this process

  1. Students remaining in their same assignment as fall 2020 (including students in special interest areas and Learning Communities)
  2. Students housed as part of their athletic program
  3. Resident Assistants
  4. Students in Graduate housing
  5. Students in Stamford housing
  6. Students with questions regarding their CSD housing accommodations should email livingoncampus@uconn.edu.

Don’t want to change rooms?

While all eligible students will automatically receive a pick time for this process, you are not required to use your time or participate! If you are fully satisfied with your spring 2021 assignment, all you need to do is not select a new room and you will remain in your currently assigned spring 2021 space.
